The Aguman Capampangan of the Northwest, now
well-known for its yearly Santa Cruzan / Coronation
Pageant (see: http://maxpages.com/santacruzan ),
is based in Portland, Oregon. Its members
are Pampangans or Pampanguenos, one of the
eight major ethno-linguistic groups in the
Philippines and who live in the area around
the former Clark Air Base, chiefly, in the
highly progressive provinces of Pampanga and
Tarlac. (For the population of Pampanga, see:
http://www.census.gov.ph/data/sectordata/prov54.html
They are also called in their own language and
by other Filipinos as Capampangans (also spelled
Kapampangan).

The Aguman Capampangan Northwest USA is a non-profit Filipino-American organization that is affiliated with the CFAA. It was founded on June 29, 1996 by Ernie C. Turla with the aid of a couple of associates, Art Villanueva and Ben Susi, when they had a picnic with other fellow Kapampangans at Oaks Park in Portland, Oregon. The first president was Marita G. Villanueva (1996-1998). She was succeeded by Dan E. del Rosario (1998-2000). Then, Ernesto C. Turla took over as president for 4 successive terms (2000-2008). Frida N. Alejandrino, one of the original members, has been serving as secretary since 1996.
The Aguman raises funds through yearly Christmas caroling and through dinner-dances such as the one scheduled this April 15. It has promoted Philippine culture through the Santa Cruzans it has had over the years and which were chaired by Monette B. Mallari. It has promoted Kapampangan culture especially their language through their partnership with the Akademyang Kapampangan International (also headed by Ernie Turla) with which they jointly celebrate an annual La Naval Fiesta at Cascade Locks.
Despite its being new, the Aguman has already been able to accomplish what only a few Filipino organizations in the whole world have been able to. The medical missions it sent to the Philippines in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007 distinguish it from other organizations in that it works for a humanitarian cause and is not just self-serving or just centered around social life as most Filipino clubs around the U.S. are. In those missions, a group of delegates led by Rodolfo F. Alejandrino brought with them to the Philippines medical provisions procured from World Medical Relief Inc. Such missions, usually undertaken only by medical societies, captured the imagination of all Filipino communities in the Portland area and of all Kapampangan communities the world over!

For a website that tells a detailed story of one of their
medical missions, click: http://maxpages.com/mission2
For these accomplishments of service, the Aguman has garnered
certificate awards from the Municipality and Rotary Club of
Magalang, Pampanga, from the Filipino-American National
Historical Society of Oregon, and plaque awards (a total of
four) from the prestigious Asian Reporter.

The Aguman raises funds to carry out its missions and
other projects via Christmas carolings and dinner/dances.
Every Christmas seasons, its choral group and Glee Club,
formely led by the late pianist Robert Palomo, serenade families
in the Portland area for donations. Every springtime, they put up a
Santa Cruzan / Coronation Pageant (headed these past two years by
Monette Mallari). see http://maxpages.com/santacruzan/thankyou

This is the flag of our country, the Philippines.
It is red, white and blue. The red stands for courage,
the white for peace and the blue for justice. The three
stars stand for the three groups of islands there, viz.:
Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The eight rays of the sun
stand for the first provinces to join the revolution
against Spain, viz.: Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija,
Bulacan, Manila, Batangas, Laguna and Cavite. They could
also represent the eight major ethno-linguistic groups
among Filipinos, viz.: Capampangan, Pangasinense, Ilocano,
Tagalog, Bicol, Waray-waray, Hiligaynon and Cebuano.
