| "Ahimsa" is a Hindi word meaning 'kindness to all life.' It is the mission statement of Ahimsa, Inc. (of Texas) to promote kindness to all life, with the primary focus of eliminating the euthanasia of healthy companion animals in our community shelters and animal pounds. We find ways to promote spay/neuter and to educate the public about the millions of healthy animals being killed in this country every minute, every day, for no reason other than there are more animals than there are homes for them. There are many ways you can help, yet helping can be as simple as being a responsible person and neutering your pet. If you have a friend, a neighbor, a relative, or even someone you don't know, who has a pet that keeps having litters, please help them find a way to neuter their pet. Two intact animals can produce between 85,000 & 150,000 offspring in just 7 years, with only two surviving babies per litter! If you are thinking about adopting a pet, please ADOPT for LIFE! Owner relenquished animals are the largest single source of incoming animals to shelters and the biggest cause of stray animals. Animals left to fend for themselves on some country road, in the park, or near the lake, have less than half-a-chance of surviving 4 months. They're shot at, poisoned, tortured, run over by cars, eaten by predators, killed slowly by internal parasites, or just starve slowly to death. They pay with their lives because they aren't wanted any more! You can become as involved as you like, or not at all. But someone must help us if we are to stop the senseless and needless slaughter of healthy kittens, puppies, cats, dogs, former Easter bunnies and other homeless pets.
