What is reiki?
The word reiki is made of two Japanese words:
rei- God's wisdom or the higher power
ki- life force energy
So reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is useful for healing on all three levels physically, emotionally and spiritually at the same time.
Reiki’s story spans almost all written record of humanity and is older than written accounts. Reiki's written story begins in Tibet thousands of years ago. Traditional reiki story begins in the 1800's, but reiki was ancient even then. My belief is that reiki is universal and never meant to be lost. It was rediscovered by a Christian minister in Japan (Dr. Usui), who was seeking the origins of Jesus' and Buddha's method of healing. When asked by his students by which Jesus did his healing. His 10 year quest brought him to India, the United States, Tibet, back to Japan to a Buddhist monastery. There he discovered the texts describing the healing, but not how to activate it. So, he went on a 21 day quest up on Mt. Koriyama in Japan. At the end of the 21 days he was given the knowledge of how to use reiki.
We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras and meridians. It also flows around us in the field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting their vital functions. When this flow of life is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously, or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative attach themselves to the energy field and cause disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and causes a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, reiki clears, straightens, and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy, natural way.
Reiki is administered by lying on a massage table fully clothed while I channel the reiki energy through my hands over the client's chakras (points on the body that correspond with the endocrine system). This is either by gently touching or above the chakra points. This is either by gently touching or holding your hands above the chakra points. This is based n the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki can be felt as a warm sensation (heat), tingling, or vibration. A treatment can feel like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. As a channel I also receive reiki as well as being a channel to gibe reiki to others while giving a reiki treatment. Commonly you may even feel something happening in an area where I am not even working on. Reiki will always work for the client's highest purpose and go where needed. Reiki treats the whole person, including body, emotions, mind and spirit. Creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being. You may even fall asleep and feel refreshed upon awakening. No two reiki treatments are exactly alike since every healing session is likely to be addressing different issues.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness or malady and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki can do no harm. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. Many hospitals are even teaching their nurses reiki. I often do half massage, half reiki treatments and have found muscles release quicker and massage "lasts longer" between sessions. Reiki is passed on through attunements from a reiki master. While reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use reiki or for it to work. In fact, reiki is not dependent on belief and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because reiki comes from God, many people find that using reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of the religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it. Because reiki is guided by the God- consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs, and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never needs worry about whether to give or receive reiki. It is always helpful. Because I am not doing the healing, but merely a pathway, it is easier for the ego to stay out of the way, and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.
