NTRODUCTION:
Association of Uganda Women Medical Doctors (AUWMD):
AUWMD is a 150-member organization established 15 years ago with a mission to build a strong
professional Association of women medical doctors working in Uganda whose growing expertise will contribute to improvement of the quality of life of the disadvantaged groups, especially women, children, adolescents and the elderly, through advocacy, promotion of health rights and provision of quality health services.
Medical Womens International Association (MWIA):
MWIA was established 82 years ago to provide an important forum for women medical professionals to share experiences and views and address common problems in their field of endeavor. MWIA membership currently exceeds 22,000 professionals located in more than 70 countries all over the world. The member countries belong to 8 regions i.e. Northern Europe, Central Europe, Southern Europe, North America, Latin America, Near East and Africa, Central Asia and Western Pacific.
MWIA aims to stimulate, encourage and promote the entry of women into the medical and allied sciences throughout the world and assist them in the optimum utilization of their medical training, to search for ways to solve the problems of medical women. Two Regional Congresses have been held since the establishment of the Near East and Africa Regional network. The last Regional Congress was held in Abuja, Nigeria in June 2000. The Third Regional Congress is to be hosted by AUWMD in Kampala between 23rd - 29th March 2003.
