What Are Some Social Issues In W.A.B's Community? Some social issues that affect Jing Hua school are that they only have two computers between 500 students so they practice on fake keyboards made out of plastic. Also they only have one playground between all of the kids and they have nearly no balls. Some of the teachers have only passed middle school and need to go on teacher training. :Blue Sky Healing Home also has some problems like they don't always have enough money to pay for the oper ations that some of the kids need. They need more staff to look after the children and if they have enough staff they can take more children. Also the building is not big enough for them to take many more kids or staff. Blue Sky Healing Home and Jing Hua have problems but so does the Elderly Home. They need more medecine and they need more bedrooms so they can take more people. They would also like some more staff to help. Another thing they need is for people to come and play chess or play other games.

WHAT ACTION CAN WE TAKE TO POSITIVELY IMPACT ON SOCIAL ISSUES IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY? We can help Jing Hua Migrant School by colllecting money to pay for computers or to biuld a new play ground. We can also help by going down and playing with them or teaching them English. We can also donate computers or balls. We can also help the Elderly Home by donating sheets or chairs. We could also go down and keep the old people company by playing chess or other board games. They also would like medecine. Blue Sky Healing Home also needs help. We could go and keep the children company or we could take them out. We could also donate some beds, toys or batteries. They would also like money to buy a new house.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL ISSUE? A social issue is problem that effects a community. Social issues can be big or small. A social issue that faces grade five is that the ibooks aren't always charged or the hallway gets crowed. Some social issues that face China are the population is getting bigger, the pollution is bad, some of the buildings might not be ready for the Olympics and there aren't enough schools for everyone. Some examples of bigger social issues are poverty, global warming, people cutting down the rain forest,fossil fuels running out, terrorism, factory farming, war, bird flu, animal extinction and the ice caps melting.

WHAT IS WAB'S LOCAL COMMUNITY? In W.A.B's local community there is the Jing Hua School. The Jing Hua school has 500 students and around 20 teachers. Very few of the teachers have passed middle school. There are 30 to 40 students per teacher. It cost 400 rmb per term and there are two terms in a year. They only have two old computers and one playground. It goes from PK to grade six. There is also Blue Sky Healing Home in our local community. Blue sky Healing Home goes around lots of different orphanages and takes children that have broblems or need operations. The most common problem is a cleff lip. Blue Sky Healing home is in a house near Beijing Riviera. The Elderly Home is also in our community. There are 283 old men and women. About 1/3 of the old people are on wheel chairs and 2/3 of them are men. They have a swimming pool and a gym. There is normally three old people to a room.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY? A community is a group of people living working or going to school together. A community has no limit to how many people it can be but it has to more than one person. Members of a community can be of different ages, cultures and backgrounds. People can be members of more than one community at the same time. Communities can take many different forms like W.A.B's. The W.A.B community has teachers, students,staff and parents. Some other communities are Beijing Riviera, Beijing, China, South East Asia, Asia, the world a monastry and a hospital.
