Brand Name - Companies can build your computer to order..If you intend to use a 'memory hungry program' like graphics, music, pictures... then you need alot of RAM Buy Compaq, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, IBM Aptiva Protection - Please buy a battery backup (UPS) and the latest antivirus program. Sound Card - Full-Duplex sound cards is the industry standard. You might want to buy a mic for your system, some are built into the monitor(compaq). Speakers - Speakers usually accompany the purchase, but upgrades are possible. Printers - Depending on the quantity and the quality of output that is required. The most common types are 1. Hewlett Packard Deskjet (Color) eg HP Deskjet 712 The higher number gives better quality print. 2. Laser : If you want letter quality print then the laser is the best choice. It is Expensive! 3. Dot Matrix : This will produce low quality print and it is good for duplicate copies. eg receipting or point-of-sale Scanners - Pictures can come alive on your computer. Programs are available to organise pictures based on events etc. The scanners with the highest dots per inch count (dpi) produce the best quality pictures. Monitor - or screen. 15 inch is the standard. 17 inch is better on the eyes. |
