Recyling has been a concern for a long time. There are factories which get rid of wastes that humans produce. Landfills are used. Landfills are big holes in the ground which are filled with trash. They are then covered. This was a good idea, but it also has many disadvantages. For example, in a landfill, most of the waste breaks down into the soil and gives it nutrients. But then the other trash, (as in glass), doesn't break down. This means that the soil will be filled with many things that will not enrich it. Again, there are factories. These factories take materials and separate them onto two conveyer belts. Then they are made into other products. These recycling factories help a lot, but they can only do so much. Read on to find out how you can help. |
How can you help? Well, there are many ways. Just recycle! Some people think that they can recycle anything, That is not true. Many things can't be placed in a recycling bin.
FOR EXAMPLE:
NO styrofoam
NO plastic bags
NO garbage
NO garden waste
NO crockery or china
NO mirrors or plate glass
NO broken glass
NO hose or pipe
NO plastic furniture
...and many others.
(YOU CAN PLACE THESE THINGS IN A DISPOSAL BIN.)
Some of these things that you shouldn't recycle can be used in other places. For example, garden wastes, (such as grass clippings, etc.), can be left in the yard.
-When you mow your lawn, you can just leave the extra grass and let it go down into the soil. This will enrich the soil with nutrients and help the grass and other plants grow.

Have you ever heard of the 3 R's? Well, if you haven't, the 3 R's respresent REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE.
-To reduce, you don't throw away as many things, just recycle them by finding the blue boxes that should be located at your house. Don't throw away as many materials.
-To reuse, you take materials that you might haev thrown away or even recycled, and use them again. FOR EXAMPLE: A gatorade bottle. Once you drink the gatorade, you can save the bottle and use it for water. This saves you money because you don't have to buy a drink everytime you need one.
-To recycle, you put materials that are: Papers, Plastics, etc, and you put them in the blue boxes like I mentioned earlier.
Those are the 3 R's. Sounds easy? Well, it is! just follow these guidelines and you'll be taking great steps for helping the environment. |
Maybe you were wondering about food. Well, natural food is biodegradable. Natural food includes fruits and vegetables. FOR EXAMPLE: An apple core. If you are finished with an apple, you can throw the core on the ground. If it is biodegradable, it will soak down into the soil and give it nutrients. That means that this is not a bad thing to do. |
