The first playstation was a Nintendo killer. With it's speed, graphics and diversity of games it was an instant succes. Instead of cartridges the playstation used CD's, which enabled the gamers to play copied games, aiding in the succes of the playstation. Playstation games became more and more popular, and Sony's game market share became bigger and bigger.

Since Sony knocked out the Nintendo console, it was time for a new competitor. Microsoft launched it's XBox, and with the enormous amount of xbox games available, it was an instant succes. Good graphics, online multiplayer games support and a diversity of games makes the Xbox a worthy Playstation 2 rival. |

Nintendo's Gamecube is competing with the other two big players in the market, the playstation 2 and the Xbox. It looked like Nintendo was not going to make it, but after a massive pricedrop it was still able to compete with the others,and the dreamcast games were great, the time and marketing done by Sega was wrong. A missed opportunity.After the success of the Super Nintendo, the N64 was Nintendo's next game console. Still using the cardtridge system, the games had less good graphics then it's rival the playstation, and the games could not be copied.

The PC as a gaming platform has been there ever since the first PC was introduced. This platform has the widest availablity of games, and it's graphics are better then any console I have ever seen, depending on your hardware and graphics card. |

Now that the Nokia NGage has been launched, the gameboy might have some competition. But with it's massive amount of games available for this handheld, it will continue to be a success.
