This game lets you create monsters, raise them and then fight them in combat. You take CDs from games, music, and the personal computer to create monsters. There is well over 300 diffrent monsters to choose from. There is various sites to visit during the game all of which help you raise your monster to be big and strong.

The Market: Here you get to choose from three diffrent monsters, these monsters will change with the seasons. You can sell any monster that you choose not to freeze for money. The amount you recieve for your monster depends on it's age, rank, and stats.

The Shrine: Here you are offered two choices, You can create monsters from Disc Stones (CDs) or Rock Slates (memory cards). The rock slate option is only good for those that have played Monster Rancher 1 and have saved game data from that game. When you use Disc Stones you will sometimes get the message that only registered Ima trainers can raise this rare monster, this means that you have not opened this breed of monster yet so keep trying those CDs from time to time because eventually you will open them up to use. If you have monsters saved from the first Monster Rancher game you can use them in Monster Rancher 2, Some Monsters will change into diffrent races when they are brought over so don't be suprized, this monster will be just as useful to you though.

The Lab: This is where most of the action takes place when breeding your monsters. Here you will get your sub-races. you have the option to combine 2 monsters together which will cost you 500 gold then you will be asked if you want to add any seasoning this sometimes has an effect on what type of monster you get. The higher the rank, stats, and age of the two monsters the better the results will be. This also affects the starting stats of your new monster as well as the number of starting techniques. You can also freeze your monster in storage, this lets you train a diffrent monster plus you can only combine monsters when they are both frozen. You can revive any frozen monster any time you want, like when one dies or you freeze your current monster to work on one of the ones you froze earlier. Lets say you dont want to use a frozen monster any more and its just taking up space, you also have the option to delete frozen monsters this frees up space for better monsters. Finaly the lab offers to analyse your monsters for you because some monsters portrait certian characteristics that may not be apparent at first, some even have as many as 3-4 of these advantages so it is wise to analyse each monster you raise, make sure you do this more than once because its hard telling how many characteristics any one monster might have if any.

Ranch: This is where you trian your monster. Each month you will have to feed your monster, so pay attention to your monsters likes and dislikes, the food it eats has an impact on its loyalty. Your monsters loyalty determines how well your monster listens or fools around during a fight. This number will range from 0-100, 100 being the best. The way you train your monster will reflect it's loyalty as well as it's life span. Strict training you monster will try harder it will have higher stats but will not live as long. Soft training your monsters will not reach it's full potential but it will live a lot longer. The average life span is between 3-4 years. There are two types of training, Drills and Errentries. There are 10 diffrent drills your monster can train in. The first six will raise only one stat, while the last four will raise two and drop one. You can choose any drill you want but some times your monster will react to certian drills either possitively or negitively, if you choose care fully you can raise your monsters stats quickly because the drills it likes to do it will usually do great in, gaining you more points for that drill. The drills it does not like your monster might sometimes cheat in or play truant by not even showing upbut useally only bad monsters do this. Errentries will raise a spicific stat along with life for your monster plus this is the only way to teach your monster new techniques. When you complete an errentry you may get the chance to fight an out law monster if you win you will get so money depending on the class of the monster you beat, the higher the class the higher the reward. When you are at the ranch you can also go to the item shop. This is where you can get items to help you raise your monster. This item shop is run by Colts aunt. Be sure to check here from time to time because she will have new things you can buy as well as discounts on certian days. She wiil also give you some important things later in the game. You can also sell things here that you dont want from your items list or that you win in matches. You will also have the option to battle. This is where your monster earns it's rank if it's good enough then who knows it might make it to the top of the final four. You will not be able to fight in any match thats more then one rank higher then your current rank, so if your rank D you can fight in rank B but not in rank A. Here you will earn various items as well as money to help raise your monster. Every monster will get tired so make sure you give your monster plenty of rest otherwise your monster might get sick, hurt or even, run away and in extreme cases get killed. Your monsters stress level will also determine how much more rest it needs the more stress the more rest it will need. when your monsters stress reaches a certian level it will run away taking away valauable training time along with the fact that it's loyalty will drop. Plus if it gets KO'ed in battle it might get sent to the hospital. All In all this game is a fun head to head game bets of luck with all your adventures.
