We have five children between the ages of 14 and 4 months. My husband is the youngest of six and I am the eldest of four. We always knew we wanted a large family, at least six kids. We had second thoughts after number four was toilet trained but number five surprised us with his arrival and with him came the return of our wish for a large family. Twins run pretty strongly in my family so we've decided not to set our sites in a particular number of kids because fate has a warped sense of humour, (my parents planned on three children, number 3 & 4 were twins). So we'll see how we go.

A lot of people can be very vocal with their negative opinions about large families and to them I say "Get over it". My husband and I raise our children with love. Each of them has our support and understanding as well as that of their siblings. They are all happy and excited by the prospect of another brother or sister. If we felt that our children would miss out or lack anything because of the size of our family then of course we would call it quits and enjoy our family as it stands. Our children have plenty to eat, a warm bed to sleep in each night, plenty of clothes and toys and best of all, four wonderful friends under the same roof. |
My husbands family live close by and although they don't understand our wish for a large family they are very supportive. The four older children went to stay with them while number five was making his debut.

We don't expect anyone to raise our children for us, my husband and I share that role.
My husband holds down a job to support us and the government assists with the cost of raising children by providing childcare allowance, rent assistance and family benefit per child. At the start of each school year, a payment of $50 per child attending school, is provided by the government to assist with the cost of back to school.
