Telltale Triggers That Might Mark Your Email As Spam
By Julia McQueen copyright 2005
Hi, how are you today? I am writing this article because
we all need to be reminded of the rules of the spam filters.
One of my own ads came to my spam folder. :(
Though this article applys mostly to newsletter publishers, people
who write ads need to take care also.
>{?
I was looking over some notes and came to SiteSell's "spam

Here are some spam trigger
words to avoid using; free, trial, money, quote,
sample,membership, access, ect.
Sex,xxx, spam,$$$,checks, money orders, extra income,.as seen on TV,
free website, are some more no-nos..
Also some pharses are taboo such as;
risk free, search engine listings, cable converters, and reverses aging.
Alwaysavoid exessive puncuation marks. Like !!!!!! or ..........
Excessive use of all caps in headlines and body of ad or ezine is not
reccomrnded either.
Another way to determine what words trigger spam, is to think of all
the words you would put in your spam filter, and use those words accordingly.
There are some good ways to stay on the good side of spam filters,
1 Use of the words "news", "newsletter", or "list" in your subject line
2. How often you publish, ie, weekly, daily, monthly, ect.
3.Including the date in the subject line.
4. Including the issue number.
5. Make sure your newsletter has some substance -- when was the last time you saw spam that had more than a few lines of text?
And Last, No Tricks!
Okay folks, I am guilty. I do use the * in words like E^zine and Fr*ee. You should never do
this because it doesn't fool the spam filters. Tricks may label you as
a spammer. I didn't think of this as being a trick. Now I know!
