Sample Heading 1
**Task #1
1925 at 3:27 a.m., the pressure gauge at Santa Barbara Water Department recorded slight tremors from a small earthquake. For three hours, the Santa Barbara Water Department contiuned to record small tremors off and on. *** Fact 2 On June 28 at 6:44 in the morning, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 woke the citizens of Santa Barbara. Some citizens were awake due to the heat, but for those who were not, they had a very shaky morning. *** Fact 3 Many of the residental homes survived in fairly good condition. The bad news was that almost every single brick chimney crumbled to the ground. *** Fact 4 The downtown area of Santa Barbara was not as lucky as the residential areas. The rubble and debris in the center of the streets was so unbelievably thick that automobile transportation was nearly impossible. *** Fact 5 The Sheffield Dam is located at the northern end of Santa Barbara near the bottom of the Santa Ynez Mountains. The dam was completed in the winter of 1917 and had a structure which was 720 feet long and 25 feet tall. The dam held up to 30 million gallons of water at the time of the earthquake. When the earthquake hit, the water rushed between the streets of Alisos and Voluntario. Along the way, the water picked up trees, automobiles, and three houses. By the time the earthquake was over, the streets were filled with water up to 2 feet high. After a while, the water finally flowed back into the sea. *** Fact 6 The Santa Barbara Earthquake killed 13 people. Most people think that if the earthquake would have hit a few hours later, little to no people would have been killed. *** Fact 7 In an odd way, the earthquake actually helped Santa Barbara's comercial district and it helped the buisnesses boom. The earthquake gave city officials a reason to set the building codes stricter. This is why today, many of the buidings have a Spanish-Moorish style of architecture. The city of Santa Barbara is full of distinct architecture and it has been a tourist attraction for over 70 years.
***Task2***
restless creatures, such as snakes, turtles, catfish, and spiders, would create earthquakes by making movemnets under the earth's suface. 2. Aristotle was one of the first people to base the reasons for earthquakes on natural phenomena. He postulated that winds within the earth would shake the earth's surface.
