About this site

This website is about the Yawgoo Valley Race Development Program - or Yawgoo Valley Race Team for short. Ski racing is our passion, and we work hard to be successful. If you're interested in the team, please read further, and enjoy the site. Happy trails!

About our team

This is a small town team and a small mountain, but we make do with what we've got, and with our coach we've got a lot. Ray Fougere is the only coach, yet still manages to give each and every racer on the team his individual attention and excellent advise and coaching skill. Coach Ray also invented the world wide known Booster Strap, through his company Ski Metrix. Although the team is very small and from a very small mountain, we have a lot of talent. Two former members, Laura Johnson and Chancellor Logan, went to the Junior Olympics. Yawgoo Valley alumni include Zach Rice, who went on the Carrabasett Valley Academy and Greg Towle, who is currently racing for Gould Academy at Sunday River, Maine. In the 2003-2004 season, Mike DeGregorio made it to J4 championships, and Emily Puleston and Ellen Noordzy made it to J3 championships, then made it to Eastern J3 Finals. Mike Phelan, our newest member, also made it to J3 championships. Tracie Johnson, Lee Randazzo, Eric Archibald, and Zach Benedict also did very well in their regular season races. If you would like to join our team call the Yawgoo Valley office at 401-294-3802 ext 10 and inquire about joining. And be sure to check out their website at www.yawgoo.com, there is a page about the race development program there as well.

About our mountain

Yawgoo Valley is Rhode Island's only ski area. Even though it only has 12 runs and 245 feet of vertical, it serves it's purpose well. Hub's Folly, named for one of the founders who can still be found in the lodge after giving lessons, has a pitch steep enough to set a good slalom training course. If it is not snowing, don't worry - 100% of Yawgoo's terrain is covered by snowmaking machines.
